I go this to help prepare for a honeymoon in St. Lucia. It's a pretty standard travel book, and if it's the only one you get you'll be alright. It's a little light on St. Lucia, and doesn't have anything you cant read through Trip Advisor or Oyster websites.I'd recommend getting the Lonely Planet guide over this.

I got this right before I went to Barbados in late September. The book seemed to be fairly up to date. The book was small and compact, convenient for traveling, and easy to read. One negative is the lack of photos and visual aids in the book. There are a lot of more helpful and colorful pamphlets and brochures for free once you arrive at Barbados airport. We ended up using the travel office at our resort hotel to get more information and purchase tickets for excursions. I do want to pass along these free pamphlets and brochures to the professional travel guide companies though!Free internet sites with travelers' opinions are more informative for getting more up-to-date frank feedback, especially for rare destinations, such as Barbados. Of course, the points of views may be swayed and tend to be a place for people to vent about bad experiences. This book is not too pricey, so I did not expect too much. Unlike Planet Lonely and other competitors, I believe that Fodor's intention for the "In Focus" series to be "starter" travel guides to help beginners learn a few basic things about the destination. Let me put it this way, it's better than nothing if you are a planner with spontaneity not being your strong suit. Have fun!PS By the way, I did my first all-inclusive vacation at Barbados, which reduced the stress about having to find a place to eat and things to do every day. Of course, we wanted to get away from the resort hotel sometimes, so the book was one way to spark our interest to get more information on particular excursions.

Purchased book for travel to St Lucia. Normally I prefer Lonely Planet, but couldn't find an LP guide specific to STL. When I travel, I avoid resorts and all inclusive and prefer to get off the beaten path. I felt this book focused very much on resorts and didn't offer very good tips to truly experience the country.

All of the information in this book can be found for free on the Fodors website, but I am the kind of guy who needs the physical book to really soak up the information. It is chalk full of helpful tips and information about the islands. I would definitely recommend. It has been very useful for planning my upcoming honeymoon. I wish it was a little wider though, so each page had a bit more information.

I'm a Fodor's fan and when traveling find these books very useful. As always, the book was spot on with lodging and dining suggestions, however, the section on Barbados was missing some vital information on recreational activities. Certain things can only be done on certain days, and need to be booked well ahead of time. We arrived on a Friday and decided to take it easy the first few days and wanted to take a sunset cruise during the week, unfortunately the book didn't mention that there is no mid week option. Guess we'll just have to go back :)

This is an excellent book, as are all the Fodor's guides. The only thing that may be a disappointment is if you already own Fodor's Caribbean and are looking for more in depth coverage of specific islands, as I was. There is some additional material here and some additional pictures, however much of it is a rehash of what is in Fodor's Caribbean. That said, if you don't already own Fodor's Caribbean it is an excellent guide.

Bought this for my daughter and son-in-law for our trip to St Lucia. It was very helpful for all of us as we made our way around the island. Pointed out local features (bakery, rum distillery, etc.) that we may not have found otherwise.Now, we just have to use the Barbados part!

I'm not sure if this is unique to the Kindle edition, but I found that this book lacked in content from what I am accustomed to from a Fodor travel guide. I was expecting a significant amount of thorough travel tips to both Barbados and St. Lucia as well as reviews of hotels, restaurants, and other attractions. I have since ordered the Rough Guides to Barbados and St Lucia, hoping that the content is significantly more thorough than Fodors Kindle edition.

Works for us!!

As with any parenting book, this one has its pros and cons. When I first read it, I didn't mind the dismissive, humiliating tone. I had a toddler in the "window" the author deems appropriate and I was reading this book, so I was obviously doing everything right from the start. The problem is the author sets you up for success if you follow the rules, but when you fail at part of the process you a) feel like you've royally messed up and b) don't get a lot of in depth information on how to get back on track. This is a very emotional process on its own, but I feel like the author's tone does not help ease any of the anxieties that come with potty training.I cannot speak for the nighttime process yet (although from the sounds of it, I think we'll just wing it and ignore the author's advice), but the day-to-day potty training process can and does work. While we had lots of issues crop up, my daughter eventually "got it" after 1 full week of training. The things I liked about this book were the clear and concise plan that was laid out. I also really appreciated the author's stance on not giving up and saying your child isn't ready when things get hard. Your child is not going to magically potty train themselves. It is going to be a frustrating process, but they WILL get it. Going back and forth between diapers and the potty is confusing and not at all helpful. During our process, I had many people tell me that maybe my daughter just wasn't ready and I should try again later. This book helped me combat that idea. First, I was NOT interested in re-living the potty training process over again (did I mention it's HARD?). Second, my child displayed all the signs of readiness before we started and I KNEW she was capable of learning something new. The book helped me put my foot down and stick with it, even when it was miserable. I also really liked the idea of not giving rewards for going potty. My daughter responded wonderfully to praise and we invented our own little celebration song because of it. Even now that she goes regularly she gets very excited about it and is SO proud of herself. I love that she did not need a sticker or a piece of candy to know she was doing a good job.The things I did not like about this book were the set age window for which to potty train. My 27 month old showed all the signs of readiness, but the author suggests she would have been just as ready as early as 18 month old. My daughter communicates well for her age, but even with that I can't imagine explaining and doing this all at 18 months old. And with the age window ending at 2.5 years, I felt like the odds were stacked against us with every minute that passed and she was not potty trained. Never mind the fact she makes it sound like, if your child isn't getting it, it is 100% your fault. The chapter on daycare is particularly depressing and set me up to believe my daughter's school was going to be difficult to work with. They were not. In fact, they were our biggest cheerleaders during the process and continue to champion my child (as they should.) To suggest to someone that, if their daycare does not comply with all the rules in this book, you should move your child to another daycare is insanity. Your kid is having trouble potty training, so why not uproot their entire day-to-day life and see how that goes? Horrible advice. Basically, the general tone of this book creates so much anxiety that I can see why so many parents are turned off by it.There were many troubleshooting suggestions that were simply the cliff's notes explanations of how to deal with issues. Some of them state the obvious but give you no real solution. For instance:-Prompt, but don't OVER prompt your child.-Your child does not get a choice about sitting on the potty, but don't turn sitting on the potty into a punishment.-If your child is misbehaving during the potty training process, it is okay to discipline them as you normally would, but don't ever punish them in regards to the potty.Also, the author mentions a Facebook group to commiserate with experts and fellow parents. There is not one; just a page for the book that posts some teaser blog posts and directs you to the book itself. I suspect if you really want that kind of support, you'll need to pay their consultants to help you.All and all, this book has some great tactics and can really help you potty train your child. Just be prepared to roll your eyes a lot at the author's tone and her anecdotes about all the amazing things she does for her own child (controlled diet, progressive schooling, etc.) that don't necessarily fit into most people's reality. If she would just stick to the facts, this would be a lot shorter book and I suspect more people would follow through with its teachings.

I had read a few other guides to potty training before this but had been told this was the best. Unfortunately, reading it stressed me out. I will probably use some of the suggestions (learning to notice subtle cues, telling not asking when it's time to go to the bathroom), but the overall tone felt judgmental and smug. My son is 34 months which is the "danger zone," as she says, because I've already missed the window for training him easily. Huh? What a cruel generalization! Also, based on my son's previous behavior she would classify him as a "kid from hell." Again, not helpful. I was just starting to think "holy crap, we have more dysfunction in our family than I realized!" when I decided to look at the author's qualifications. I can't tell what they are either from the book, from her blog, Google, whatever. She has been a social worker at some point, so what. She's devised a method that is helpful for many parents, so what. I think if she was a real professional counseling families according to real ethical/professional standards, she would know not to talk down to parents.

This is Ted's wife writing this just FYI. So here goes:Yes. Just Yes. This book's methods were extremely successful for us with our almost 2 1/2 year old son. I read it over the course of 2 weeks, but I didn't just read it. I took notes, highlighted and made myself practice lists and reminders to put on my fridge on the day we started (I know). It really gives you useable, easy to understand advice to teach your child. I think to be successful with it, as Jamie states several times, you need to commit and have confidence that your child can do this. We ran into the dreaded fear of pooping on the potty on the second day. I looked for guidance and found it on Jamie's website and via email. She has a great series of You Tube videos as well. Her suggestions on the videos and in the book helped us to get over the poop hump and I am happy to say that on day 8 of consistent, committed and calm potty training, we did it! I definitely think that this method could be tricky for parents who don't have the ability to be home for 4 or more days with their child, but if it is at all possible to take an extra day off of work, it is totally worth it to give it a go! Also, wine. The End.

The book is amazing but the audio version is absolute garbage. The narrator is one of the worst I have heard and they could not have chosen a worse person for this particular book. He speaks way too fast and his cadence just seems unnatural. He speeds through parts of some sentences and then speaks too slowly in others. He also has no pause between different characters speaking so it seems like back and forth conversations flow together into one long sentence. It's impossible to tell which character is speaking sometimes.I actually slowed the speed of the audiobook to 95% to try to help. Unfortunately, that only partially mitigated the problem when he speaks to fast but then made it painful when he speaks too slow. Do yourself a favor and read the book instead of listening to it. John and David are fun people, and Wong can certainly write well. Most of the jokes are admittedly crude toilet humor, but if that's your style of humor, you can't do much better. The horror is also well done, capturing the hopelessness and shock of the characters well.The books only real problem is how it was released. This book was released piecemeal online, and it shows, with the narrative getting more and more lost as the book goes on. This makes the end result very confusing and makes a decent chunk of the book seem meandering in retrospect. Still, it's a fun novel, one I would recommend to anyone of college age.

This was quite possibly the weirdest, most surreal book I've ever read. The entire book reminded me of this Widespread Panic lyric, "You look around the room you find the pant is peeling, your reflective skin is falling off your bones." Like a good Stephen King novel even my dreams were infected. Just this morning I woke in a pool of sweat as a giant oozing acid monster was swallowing my head and melting me into a big blue vat. Projects look dooable and instructions well written - just wish I could find some green wood

I had checked this book out from my local public library - the patterns / projects were so good, I wanted a copy to by to use. I especially like the pattern for the gazebo; I'll build this later this year.

After reading and building some of the projects in Brian Cameron's book on making bent willow furniture the "15 Easy Weekend Projects Using Freshly Cut Wood" looks like a keeper. I'm really looking forward to getting out to the lake and cutting some more willow!

First of all, let's be honest and not mislead the general reader - this book covers a lot of highly advanced math. The author, Edward Frenkel, likely does as well as anyone could to outline the math in a way that a non-specialist audience can usefully grasp if they put in considerable effort and re-reading, but even then the reader needs to be comfortable with math at least at the undergrad level (calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, etc.). Don't expect to really 'understand' what Frenkel is talking about unless you have considerably greater math background, say grad school level and prior familiarity with the particular areas of math Frenkel covers.Being an engineer, I fall into the former category and came to this book already loving math, and I found the math in this book to often be quite tough going (especially in the second half of the book), though I did get a rough sense of what he was talking about (and I followed the advice to keep going in the tougher parts rather than getting bogged down). True, I could re-read the whole book to get a better understanding, but realistically it would make more sense to bone up on the prerequisite math using other books and then return to this book in a few years (yes, that long). Because I feel that the accessibility of this book for the general reader has been overstated by the book's endorsers and overestimated by the author, I'm deducting a star.That said, I did enjoy this book greatly and am glad that I read it. Besides the exposure to high-level math and the associated research and discovery process (at both the individual and collaborative levels), I found this window into Russian culture fascinating, and frankly I was rather surprised to see that the culture matches many of the stereotypes quite well (Frenkel relates many memorable stories in this regard). I was also inspired to see Frenkel's passion for math, his perseverance against serious adversity, and his resulting remarkable achievements, which he describes with considerable humility, all things considered. In that regard, I was also awed, yet again, to see the reach of some human minds (alas, not mine!) into the wondrous parallel universe of Platonic objective truth which we call 'mathematics' (or more precisely, perhaps we should give a different name to that universe, since 'mathematics' only reflects what we've discovered and mapped so far).Summing up, I can definitely recommend this book to anyone who already loves math and has decent mathematical 'maturity' in the sense of being able to handle math at a relatively abstract level. Those who don't have at least that background could mostly skip the math in the book and instead focus on the memoir aspect. Whether that would be worthwhile depends on the specific interests of the reader, and I only can say that I and apparently many other readers greatly enjoyed that aspect.

Although this book is readable by most, even a math major will only follow the Mathematical content to a certain extent. While Frenkel does a nice job of explaining how it all works together, I imagine the technical explanations will bog down the average reader. Also, Frenkel often toots his own horn which I imagine was difficult not to hold back on after doing cutting edge mathematics. At the same time, his intro about Math in Russia in the 1900’s was enough to make me want to finish the book out. I must admit that the last chapter or two was somewhat difficult to finish. I guess that I’m glad I read it, but I will not be reading it again.

You can clearly tell that the author loves mathematics, it jumps out at you as you read the book - the enthusiasm and excitement is clear in each page. At times, the excitement is so great that the mathematical terms and concepts jump off the page and the author seems to get lost in his thoughts. At those times, the reader can get lost also - lost in math, as the concepts are so hard to follow that reading them two or three times doesn't help. After these binges by the author, he tends to somewhat apologize that the reader's head may be spinning.But to me, as I love math also, even these pages are interesting. The mathematical terms, Lie Groups, automorphic functions, Riemann surfaces, etc. are another exciting world that I will never fully understand but can read in books like this one and get a level of some of the enthusiasm that I felt as a math major in college, prior to entering the business world.I agree, however, that the average reader may be turned off by all of this, and possibly not finish the book. However, if you have a love of math, either current, or dormant and want to revitalize it, then pick up and read this book. You will probably enjoy it like I did.

Edward has done an amazing thing - he has translated the concepts of advanced mathematics into an every day language that, with a little reflection, makes deeply difficult concepts readily accessible to the interested reader. Edward shows us that mathematics is not at all the solving equations that we did in school, but rather a whole world of deeply creative ideas that enables us to better understand our world.As someone deeply passionate about mathematics, but having very little talent, this book was able to open very many doors of understanding for me that previously were closed.The mathematics in here is not conceptually dumbed down and readers should expect to think and reflect to get the full value from the book.Stylistically the book alternates often between an autobiographical chapter and then a beautiful exposition of the mathematics Edward was studying. I disagree entirely with reviewers who have said the book is too autobiographical or that it is self-congratulatory. It is very clearly a passionate and cheerful exposition of Edward's favorite mathematics, which is balanced beautifully with his fascinating and interesting autobiography as a mathematician.There are many ways to read this book and benefit - however I find that because the mathematics he is discussing is so advanced, it will probably appeal most to people who are interested or intrigued with mathematics (and quantum physics). It will help mathematicians explain their concepts in simpler language, and help lay people understand part of why mathematics is so beautiful and powerful.The topics include group theory, knot theory, analysis, number theory, sheaf theory, abstract algebra, gauge theory, and the laglands program which ties many of these ideas together.While the book succeeds in presenting extremely advanced mathematical ideas in very simple language, any passionate reader should read the book multiple times to truly absorb the concepts and see the connections at a deeper level.For a comparison - The book is nowhere near as challenging, rigorous, or complicated as roger penrose's road to reality. At the same time, it is more conceptually focused than ian stewart's books. It is more rigorous than Steven Stroglat'z 'joy of x' - All of these characteristics form its strength - I will happily recommend this book to anyone interested in mathematics or wanting to understand quantum physics better.

The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device." He repeated these three products again and then he violated everyone expectations by saying that they were not three devices. He said, "This is one device. And we are calling it an iPhone."Although this book is spot on with how certain people inspire, motivate, and exert a powerful influence through a great story, I did not find reading this a page turner because it was repetitive, long-winded, and the "secrets" were pigeon-holed into five different types of stories almost all of which could have fit any type of story. To me every story in the book educated, motivated, and simplified the message into something the audience could understand. The author, in my opinion, failed to heed his own advice of simplifying the story and instead crafted a message at least 50% longer than it should have been.So........ here is my story:I am an avid consumer who has become weary over the inferior consumer products that I wasted my money on and which have ended up in landfills. Therefore, as a hobby I decided to combine my love of writing with my desire to review products in order to empower others in making informed purchase decisions and spend dollars wisely in the hopes that they not lose money like I have.Please note that I received a pre-release book. In its current state, I feel this book is one that should be borrowed from a library. If the story were tightened up by about 50% (which I doubt it will be), then I might consider this worth the purchase.

This is one of the few books that a) I couldn't put down, b) I finished cover to cover, and c) recommended it, purchased it for or loaned it to others. Each chapter makes a different point and that's accomplished in 4-5 pages so it's very easy to pick up and put down. The content is absorbing, enlightening and hopeful. The point is made that people respond far better to compelling stories (especially about people overcoming obstacles) than "data dumps" as in Power Point presentations. Less is more and the story is everything. That's not to say that people don't need to know the numbers but they're moved to action by stories more than numbers. If you're a speaker or planning to make presentations I highly recommend it; I plan to make presentations in the future and this book made an indelible impression on me.

This was an ok book. Not great. It took a long way around to give just a little advice. I was hoping for more substance.

This is a powerful book that every working professional should read. It is compelling, evidence-based, filled with stories that not only educate but demonstrate the communication power of storytelling. I first bought and listened to the audio book (the author has a fantastic voice as well as writing style!) There was so much rich content that I wanted to capture, that I bought the paperback book as well. Taking that on a long plane ride with me. A resource that I will refer to and share with MANY times!

This book is not at all what I wanted or expected. I love brain teasers and I suppose technically that's what is in here, but they seem more like abstract, pure logic puzzles. You know - If A likes B and B likes C and all cats are jerks then what color is the rock? The worst part is that once the author sets up a premise then what follows seems to be 20 more variations with one small tweak. I tried to adapt to it and enjoy it, but could not. I decided to sell it to a used book store so perhaps someone who likes this type of thing can benefit from my mistake.

Good book for testing logical abilities, but somewhat repetitive in its exercises.

I have bought this book several times, as gifts for others and for myself. It starts with a number of pretty easy puzzles to get the mind thinking about things in the right way, then the puzzles get more tricky, but are still based in the fundamentals of logic. Smullyan clearly loves what he does, and his somewhat nerdy passion comes across brilliantly in this book. His explanations to each puzzle are extremely thorough and orient the reader to think about things correctly for future puzzles in the book. I have taught logic for several years and would recommend this book to anyone interested in developing their reasoning skills in a fun, interesting way.

I purchased this as a test for my ability to understand puzzles and how to solve them. It is a test in progress.

I teach gifted 4th - 6th grade children and the logic puzzles are just what they need to develop strong thinking skills. I was pleasantly surprised how many good puzzles were found in the publication.

As a writer, I am suddenly working with PhD's, mathematicians, logicians, physicists, and whatever. This book is really helping my brain to be more logical (did I say I am a writer, an artist, not a math type person?). I am really forced to think, and to use logic. I love this book.

Raymond's puzzles are like a tangled fishing line. He includes solutions to all his puzzles. Me- I'm a dyslexic so you can imagine what they do to me.GOOD LUCK!

I would recommend this to everyone new to real estate investing and real estate wholesaling.Although I am not a fan of bandit signs and their methods, this book is full of valuable real world advice not seen in other books. They also go into the indispensable details of the documents of real estate wholesaling, which most books ignore for some reason. Most books skim over the basic highlights, just giving you enough to be a sufficient book. This book actually gives you enough info to start your own real estate wholesaling business!I'm giving this book five stars because of everything above and because I can't think of anything of value that they missed, or didn't get into enough. No book can cover everything in this field but if you're interested in this field, you should start here and then grow outwards in knowledge and experience.FYI, take a lot of notes! Make documents that you can refer to, expand, and modify, based off what's in this book and you'll be off to a much better start than the vast majority.

One of the best books that I've read on the topic. I have read a large number of real estate and investing books/podcasts. This is in the top 10% of all the real estate books that I've read. Author explains processes thoroughly in an easy to understand concept. Author gives great advice as well. Not overloaded with what I call "story time" that takes up so much space.

The book is the best book I have read about WholeSaling Real Estate. I am a Wholesaler. It's Very Informative. Easy to read and I have personally recommended and bought it for people as a gift. You can't not go wrong with this purchase. Robert Shemin is the man.

I'm really glad I picked this book up. I've already covered some of this in the last year, but there's a lot of tactics and even specific copy I swiped right from this little book. Very useful and it's going to save me a lot of time in testing what works.

Author provides step by step instructions and gives specific resources so that the reader is not left wondering what to do next in their foray into real estate wholesaling.
