Review
When a friend suggested I get my hands on this book, I jumped at the chance. Â After just reading the first page, I understood that if I applied these daily affirmations to what I was learning about being an adult child of an alcoholic, my life would change. Â This book is more like a tool. Â It is so much more than a self-help book. Â It is more like a handbook or a guide book. Â It is direct, clear and holds no punches. Â It helps you unwind the thought or the belief that created the negative patterns, so you can look at them, pull them apart, and actually re-wire your brain.Loving The Self Affirmations-Breaking The Cycles of Unconscious Belief Systems helped me open my eyes as well as my mind from so many different angles. Â I struggle with codependency and low self esteem. Â My low self worth comes from family problems I dealt with as a child. Â I never realized that what I went through as a child had an affect on my adult relationships. Â I am in recovery now and use books as a tool to help me stay on course. Â This affirmation book is one I treasure. Â I take it with me everywhere. It keeps me focused especially when I feel like I am becoming stressed.

From the Author
If you have recently been struck with the news by a therapist that you or your relationship is "codependent" you may be asking yourself "What the hell does that mean?" And if neither you nor your partner is an alcoholic or has any known addiction, you may not be clear as to what it means to be told you are suffering from codependency. As my life began to unravel before my very eyes, I often times felt shear panic over what to do next. Â I had lived my life under the impression that I was doing everything right. Â What I did not realize was, I was also trying to control everything and everyone in my experience. Â When my husband didn't do what I thought he should do, I became angry, sad, depressed and often times blamed him for why I felt so overwhelmed. Â And it wasn't just him I seemed to have issues with. Â In my mind, I was right--about everything--and everyone else was wrong. Â And then I heard the words, "Lisa you're not crazy--but you are codependent," and I understood that perhaps--just maybe I needed to start looking at what I may have been doing wrong--instead of focusing on others. When my marriage fell apart and I found myself suddenly alone, and responsible for my three young children, there were many moments when I felt as if negative self talk was going to gobble me up. Â Depression was so thick, sometimes I wondered how it was I was ever going to face another day. Â Constant self battery was the norm. Â Once I did not know about this thing called Self Awareness. Â When we are unconscious to why our lives are not working, we often think other people are the reasons why we are so unhappy. Â We are confused because we keep attracting partners, friends and acquaintances that abuse us, or take advantage of us. Â We are unaware that our subconscious ideas about Self are the reasons we keep attracting people into our lives that cannot support us emotionally or otherwise. Â We hear ourselves yearning for a healthy relationship, yet are deaf to the unconscious wounds that shout, "I am not enough--I am not deserving". Until these ideas are brought to the conscious mind where they can be observed, and ultimately dealt with appropriately, Self neglect and abuse continues. Â Affirmations helped me heal my once tattered life, and they can and will do the same for you. These affirmations helped me stay focused on 'me' and what was going on inside 'my head' so that I could teach myself how to 'detach' and finally take responsibility for my 'own happiness'. Â It wasn't an easy thing; to heal my codependent mind, but heal I have, and happy I am.May these affirmations be just the dose of self help medicine you need to keep you focused on the road back to you.Â

Another fabulous book by my favorite author Lisa A Romano. This book is designed to provide you with one affirmation a day, but you can just open to any day and get a beautiful message. Lisa has inspired me and educated me. I have truly learned so much. It's almost as if the great mystery of my life has been revealed. I normally don't leave comments, but I feel so strongly about her healing power I just have to share. All love starts with self love. I highly recommend all of her books.
The author has an excellent understanding of an application needed to reach Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families. I intend to purchase all of her books as well as watching her You Tube videos for more than an hour each day.
A very beautiful work-book. It contains daily challenges that you can use immediately to help reprogram your mind from a negative, codependent head-space, to a healthier state. I recommend anyone who's become aware of their codependent status that wants to learn a better way of thinking. Highly compassionate, and considerate insights. A+
I realized I expected, there's the issue-expectation, this book to have a profound message. It didn't. All one needs is to listen intently, without hesitation and without doubt to your own Inner Voice. All your answers are within your Inner Being. 😃🙌ðŸ¼
I started reading this yesterday. It’s a daily read. A page for each day up to 60 days. Day 2 I started tearing up from emotions. The affirmations I’ve read so far are beautiful. I’m sure the rest will be just as lovely and healing.
Highly recommended for those who grew up in alcoholic families or those who are recovering themselves. This lovely little book contains 60 individual affirmations which together with explaining how co-dependency affects us for the worst provides real solutions. A great book to consult every day for a boost and to keep you sharp and focused on practical things you can do to increase self worth and self love.
This is far more useful for a recovering codependent than the "Road home."Recommended for those healing from narcissistic abuse, toxic relationships, or adult children of alcoholics.
Loving loving myself. I wish I could say I look at them every day. But I do not. I am busy. But when I do I am happy that I did. I am always amazed that whatever day it is I look at just fits with what I am going through at the moment.I've done short affirmations for a number of years. Short phrases that I can say over and over in my head or out loud. But it is nice having something to mull over a little more deeply. It's sort of like having the explanation for "I am good enough"
