She has written many articles and books related to K-12 mathematics education, including Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally and the related series, Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics. Bay-Williams is a national leader in mathematics education, having served as a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Board of Directors, secretary and president of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE), lead writer for the Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics (AMTE, 2017), and a member of the TODOS: Mathematics for ALL Board of Directors. Bay-Williams taught elementary, middle, and high school students in Missouri and in Peru. She currently works in elementary classrooms in the Louisville area. Gina Kling is fortunate to serve the mathematics education community in a variety of ways. This book bridges the gap between Judaism and Christianity and refutes alot of preconceived ideas that Hellenistic Platonic ideas embellished what began as a simple Jewish Messianic movement. Barker claims that the rituals of the Orthodox Church go back to a more ancient form of Judaism based on the First Temple which was suppressed in the 7th century BC by King Josiah and later Ezra who rewrote the Old Testament which we now have. However, the beliefs of this form of First Temple Judaism were still prevalent in Jesus' day and were revered by groups such as the community responsible for the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Jewish Apocryphal literature. After 70AD this form of Judaism survived in Christianity. Some of these ideas are found sporadically in the Old Testament ie Ezekiel's vision of the Chariot Throne, Isaiah's visions in the Holy of Holies, and the seventh chapter of Daniel's "Son of Man". However, the emphasis on the Melchizedek Priesthood, Enoch, and Heavenly ascents which are found in the New Testament, especially Hebrews and Revelation, are all but absent in the Old Testament. First Temple Judaism stressed the idea that certain mortals achieved a divine status and ascended to Heaven while they were still alive, that Yahweh, the Lord of Israel was the Son of God and that Wisdom was his mother. The emphasis and revered status of Wisdom was replaced by the Law by Jewish reformers returning from Babylon. Jesus saw himself as the incarnation of the Lord of Israel, the preexistant Son of God. The vision he had of Heaven opening during his baptism, of the entire world when he was in the wilderness, and his transfiguration were all part of a belief system which can only be found in the New Testament and Jewish apocryphal literature, particularly the books of Enoch, The Ascension of Isaiah, and the Odes of Solomon. Barker defends Philo's premise that Plato was more influenced by Judaism than the other way around. Pythagorus, who influenced Plato, received his religious ideas in Palestine and Syria during the time of Ezekiel and before the reform of Judaism. The Eucharist, which is the most important sacrament beside baptism, is the continuation of the Day of Atonement ritual in which Jesus took the roles of the High Priest as well as the sacrifice. Orthodox churches still perform the ritual in a separate area of the church which corresponds to the Holy of Holies in the First Temple which represents Heaven on Earth. Many of the rituals of the primitive church to include the liturgy, signing with the cross, praying toward the east, were passed down from Jesus and the disciples in secret and were not committed to writing because the deeper meanings of these rituals could only be understood by a few. Some of the earliest fathers attested to this to include, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Ignatius of Antioch, and Basil of Caesarea. The Orthodox liturgy is a reenactment of the events portrayed in the book of Ezekiel and Revelation. The deeper meanings of these two books can only be understood as such and not turned into ridiculous modern day science fiction. Barker spends alot of time discussing the significance of the ancient Holy of Holies which contained the ark and the throne of the Lord and how ancient kings, beginning with Solomon were anointed with divine status there and how prophets received revelations there. The figure of Wisdom, the feminine aspect of God the Father, was described in The Gospel of the Hebrews as Jesus' mother, not unlike Philo writing about Wisdom giving birth to the Logos. The Trinity doctrine and the veneration of Mary were not Hellenistic additions to Christianity but sprang from the very Judaism which Jesus and his followers belonged to which was suppressed and all but destroyed by both Christians and Jews later on. I'm glad I ordered the paperback version of this book when I did. It should definitely be brought back.

Margaret Barker taps into the Temple ceremonies of Israel and the Early Christian Church to show a pattern of supression among the leaders in both. The sacred oral traditions of temple worship are wonderfully covered. Her insight into pre-exile Israelite beliefs, the Deuteronomist purge and the very early christian writings is inspiring. I loved every page and recommend it to those who share a belief in the lost cult of the temple.

Cool adult coloring book. Wish there was just a bit more variety. So far I have only colored one picture, it takes quite a long time, but is relaxing. I forgot how much fun coloring is.

One sided, fairly thick paper adult coloring book. Very detailed drawings! The cat faces pretty much look identical in every drawing, same kind of blank expression, but the intricate backgrounds and strong themes of each sheet make up for that. I particularly like the King and Queen playing card themed drawings. I would suggest putting a blank sheet of paper under the drawing you're working on just for precaution. I have used felt tip markers and they bleed through to the back but since I use a divider, it doesn't bleed into other pages. I think you could probably use watercolor pencils on this as well without any worry of tearing. Overall, I really love this book and would recommend prismacolor's colored pencils to color them.

Really cute and detailed. A lot of the cats look identical with different backgrounds. I love it!

The images are fun and whimsical - screaming to be filled with bright, vibrant colors. Yes, the face of the cat is identical throughout - some may be disappointed by this. I see the cat as a secondary element of the drawing. Each page is 'themed', (eg: travel, flowers, cuckoo clocks, writer, fairy, etc), The theme, to me, is the primary element of the image.As for the book itself, paper is not a concern to me, since I copy the pages so I can color them more than once using different implements. Gel pens, color pencils and fine tip markers are the most common implements I use. The paper is thicker than your average copy paper, but I would never color in the book without putting a protective sheet in between pages. Marker will bleed through - Sharpie would bleed the most, Crayola the least. The gel pens don't bleed through, but the color shows through the back (not sure if this will make sense to you - the reader).Most books you would not want the binding to break easily, but with coloring books, most people like the book to lay flat, whether for coloring or copying. This binding 'breaks' open very well. Allowing me to copy pages without removing them from the book. The pages are perforated!!! Coloring books loose at least 1/2 a star, in my opinion, for not having perforated pages. These are also one-sided pages, also important enough to loose 1/2 a star over.Overall, the images in this book are fun, with crisp lines (even the fine lines) and minimal white space. Perhaps not for the youngest of coloring enthusiasts, unless they are a little more advanced in their coloring skills. (I did use these types of books to help hone my daughter's fine motor skills). I am looking forward to bringing out the brightest (and least used) of my pens and pencils for these images. Glitters, metallics and neons - oh my!!!

This is a great adult coloring book for the advanced artist! I bought this as a gift for my Mother who has cancer and is in recovery. Amazing cat lover coloring book!Perforated pages and its printed on one side which makes it great to display!

So much fun to do. Not easy designs. They do take some practice so if you are a novice like I am. Work on easier items first. I love this book!

This is one of van der Post's earliest books written in 1952 about his post WWII journey by "aeroplane" across Africa and to Nayasaland (Malawi)to survey the highlands of Mt. Mlanje and the Nyika Plateau for the colonial British govenment.Anyone that has read Laurens van der Post knows that he is a master of description both of the land and the people he encounters. I had wanted to read this book for years. It was very highly recommended to me by a fellow Peace Corps volunteer while I was in Botswana in southern Africa. After many years I found this on Amazon and finally read it and had a very difficult time putting it down to attend to the other demands of life. It is a very good, engaging book.As you read this you will have to look beyond the colonial perspective that van der Post had regarding the British and the Malawian "natives" and see the riches of the country and it's people of that period. van der Post reflects often on the people and his recent return from his ordeal as a prisoner of war.

I used to live in East Africa and so was interested to see what it was like in 1952. Van der Post includes a lot of philosophizing in with the exploration, which I would have preferred less of. Malawi is a country that is not heard about a lot. I didn't know it had high mountains and I since went on the internet to see where he was and it is still the same. On the whole I found it very interesting and I learned quite a bit about the old British colonial system from it

Thanks to the Vine Program I recently read Paul Theroux's latest work, The Last Train to Zona Verde: My Ultimate African Safari. My review is posted; one of my criticisms was the seemingly petty way that he attacked a number of other writers, including this work's author. Theroux called van der Post a "mythomaniac," a "fantasist" and "fake mystic." Theroux specifically mentioned this work, which I had first read some 40 years ago, and I was impressed with it then. Gulp! Had I been taken in again, thinking about Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Journey to Change the World... One Child at a Time (Young Reader's Edition) by Greg Mortenson , and Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West by Steve Ambrose, both of which I enjoyed when I first read them, and then was sadly disappointed to find out the authors fabricated portions of their works? I checked Wikipedia, and there seems to be some substance to Theroux's charge; there is even a book that chronicles his deceits: (Storyteller: The Lives of Laurens van der Post). So, I decided to re-read the book, in part to determine if I had not been critical enough the first time, as I had not in the books cited above. For me it remains a fascinating time, and a journey I much envy. Britain had emerged on the victorious side in World War II, but was still recovering. The political leadership realized that the colonial era was drawing to a close. They had already recognized Indian independence. Yet one strain of the leadership remained deeply attached to the fate of the world beyond its shores. The British "Locust Control Board" funded Wilfred Thesiger's trip across the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia, in 1947, in part, to determine if that was the origins of the locust when they swept across India. Concern over food production, and the increasing world population led them to fund Laurens van der Post's journey to two remote highland areas of Nyasaland, (present day Malawi) which had been part of a federation with Rhodesia. (Ironically, in light of the '82 war, he mentioned that food concerns occurred due to "problems with Argentina.")He departed Heath Row (so spelt, with the space) on May 10, 1949, on an old-fashioned air journey, on a plane bound for South Africa, but with lengthy ground stops, to re-fuel, and feed the passengers, on the ground. The plane sat 24, in comfort. The plane had landing stops near Tripoli, Libya, Khartoum, in the Sudan, and then Nairobi, Kenya. He then commences on an even smaller plane to Blantyre, in Nyasaland. The first third of the book is devoted simply this air journey. He also gives a brief account of his ancestors, all of whom are of Dutch origins, who had immigrated to South Africa, thence being knows as "Afrikaners." On one of their treks in the 19th Century, to the "Free State," his grandmother, who was a small child at the time, narrowly escaped with her life, in a massacre by the natives, of the trekkers, that killed all the other members of the party, including her parents.He describes a "sleepy" Nyasaland, with no real anti-colonial movement, ruled by 2000 British whites (and that figure includes the wives!). The "sweet-spot" in the book is his description of his trek on Mt. Mlanje, in the extreme south of the country, in an area that bordered Portuguese East Africa (now, Mozambique.). It is a highland area, 2000-3000 meters, which looked, in many ways, like Scotland. The British actually had a forestry service there, and van der Post is repeated warned that they are deeply devoted to the cedar trees which grew on the mountain. Val and Dicky Vance, in their late 20's, with their young daughter, live an isolated and idyllic life high on the mountain. Their concern is that van der Post is on a mission to take their small place in "paradise" away from them. And in an unintentional way, he did: on their trek over the top of the mountain, Dicky Vance was swept away, and killed, while trying to cross a stream. Van der Post had to return with the grim news for his wife. The last third of the book was not as dramatic, and described his journey along the high Nyika plateau, in the far north of the country.In terms of the "re-evaluation," I still found the description of the journey fascinating. I was uneasy with his account of Dicky Vance's death; first of all, there were the endless "premonitions" which seemed to be constructed with hindsight. Likewise, his need to fault Dicky Vance for his death seemed to indicate that van der Post was hiding some inner guilt. And it should be noted that van der Post was a friend and an adherent of the philosophy of Carl Jung, and he weaves his outlook towards the African native from that perspective. At time, he seems to have progressive views, for example, his willingness to shake their hand, when others would not (OK... so, in a relative sense), but he also repeatedly uses the term "bearers," as indeed they were. Perhaps, that is merely "quaint", as is the use of some terms by Faulkner. Finally, he never says what the result of his two treks in the highlands was. Did he even file a report? So, with moments of unease about the veracity of certain points, I'll give it 4-stars.

This remains one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors. On the surface this book is about a true, post WWII adventure and exploration -- philosopher Sir Laurens van der Post's incredible and dramatic journey into the interior of Africa to survey certain areas for the colonial British government. However as always with van der Post's writing his meaning is deeper and is woven so beautifuly throughout the text. As the title eludes, this is a bold and grand venture into the interior of our human selves.In the Preface he sets up this venture when he refers to 'an unresolved conflict between two fundamental elements in my make-up; conscious and unconscious, male and female, masculine and feminine...On one side, under the heading "Africa", I would group unconscious, female, feminine, mother; and under "Europe" on the other: conscious, male, masculine, father'. And further in the text he states for example: 'For this unreality starts in an incomplete awareness of ourselves... out of this dark gorge... between the two halves of ourselves, out of this division between the Europe and the Africa in us, unreality rises up to overwhelm us... The human being... is strangled in his own lack of self-awareness.' And again, ''The problem is ours; it is in us, in our split and divided hearts... We hate the native in ourselves; we scorn and despise the night in which we have our being ...before we can close our split natures we must forgive ourselves. We must, we must forgive our European selves for what we have done to the Africa within us.'This is a highly-recommended prophetic book prompting much-needed reflection on our human condition; that we do indeed all suffer from this split personality and that a deeper awareness of it is critical to our future. In terms of a solution, van der Post laments in the book '...could there be... some magic somewhere, some medicine that could redeem all?' In other words can our split natures be reconciled?? Is there something out there that can reconcile these depressingly dividied 'African' and 'European' selves? Unbelievably, there is. An Australian biologist -- who himself frequently draws upon the work of Sir Laurens van der Post, including 'Venture To the Interior' -- Jeremy Griffith has produced a biological explanation of the human condition that does just that. Our human condition is logically explained in first principle terms and the outcome is truly wonderous and transforming for the entire human race. A breakthrough of monumental significance. This Juicing book is my first. It's digitally downloaded onto my phone and I love bookmarking the recipes I want to use. It has so many recipes, I could never run out of them. I really think my favorite feature is that it gives the specific benefits of the ingredients of each recipe. Exceeded my expectations.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! This is not a book of healthy, fresh juice recipes - this is how to add WHITE SUGAR to make healthy ingredients unhealthy! Terrible. Glad I only paid 99 cents... but even that was 98 cents too much!

We got a juicer this past summer and only figured out how to do a couple of things with it. That stuff got old fast. We went in search of a big and varied juicing recipe book and this one definitely fits the bill. There are so many recipes in here that we will never make it through them all. However, the ones that we have made so far are well-explained with great illustrations and work perfectly. The Orange Energy Drink is my favorite and we also like the Fresh Pineapple Spicy juice. So much fun.

I love this book! Juicing: 365 Days of Juicing Recipes has excellent recipes in it. I love juice and smoothies, but I am terrible with coming up with my own recipes. I bought this book and I love it. The Grape & Blueberry Juice is divine and I love the Parsley Energy Explosion. My kids love Hulk Blood. The author, Emma Katie, tells a little bit about each recipe before she gives the ingredients and how to make it. There are recipes for helping your joints, immune boosters, antioxidant juices and some specifically for athletes. Also, she has a few that can be used for dessert options! On top of that, there are some recipes with soda water so they can be used more as an adult drink.

This book encourages us to use canned juices and processed sugar. Not only do we fail to get the benefits of the living enzymes when we do this, but we are one of the most harmful, addictive substances to our bodies - sugar! Shame on you for misrepresenting this as a healthy book! I wasted $.99 on you!

Sophia F. Dziegielewski, PhD, LCSW, is Professor, School of Social Work, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. This book was perfect for my class. It came in proper time and in excellent condition.

What a big difference this book has made for my studies in social work.

This is a really basic explanation that clearly outlines the best approach for social workers to take with their clients with regards to medication.

Ordered this for a class. I don't think I actually needed to order the book, but it's not bad. I don't have much to compare it to.

The book makes an otherwise difficult subject enjoyable. The Kindle version is good for the older student who may need to enhance the font.

I am just into chapter 3 and the binding is falling apart. I would expect this from a used book not a brand new one. I do not hold the seller responsible but the publisher.
