I've read several books on this topic from those with same sex attraction (SSA) from different view points. I am married and heterosexual so I freely admit I have no clue to the struggle those who seek to stay celibate go through. That's why I have sought understanding from reading and talking to those I know with SSA. The honesty is almost disarming but refreshing. He sticks to his story and does not judge others. He backs up his position with scripture that speaks about God's love and faithfulness. The author reinforced God's love for all of us no matter what our sexual orientation yet balanced God's mercy and judgement. To quote the author, "God isn't tame or safe." And, "God judges sin and transforms sinners." I would recommend this book for anyone seeking some answers for SSA and the Bible; for families struggling with a loved one who has embraced the gay lifestyle; and heterosexuals who seek more understanding. A lot of thought provoking material whether you agree or not. I think it offers hope to those who share the same struggle.
Washed and Waiting helped me understand the deep struggles of those with same sex attraction who believe that acting on those impulses is sinful. It is application more than exposition.The title of this short book comes from two verses: 1 Corinthians 6:11 tells us that we have been washed clean of our sin and Romans 8:25 tells us that we are awaiting the completion of our redemption. Hence, we are washed and waiting. We are free from sin on one level but not yet fully free. Since this is true of all sin, I found the author's answers helpful even though I do not experience same-sex attraction. I have areas of my life where my desires and my devotion to God pull me in opposite directions, and so I empathized with his struggle and learned from it. The section toward the end on loneliness and community was particularly powerful.In addition this book helped me empathize better with my brothers and sisters in Christ who experience same-sex attraction.Highly recommended. It is worth reading whatever temptations you face.
