I enjoyed reading this story. I was pleased to read a story that the main character wasn't so focused on saying no like so many RH books have as a major plot line.

Short story to introduce you to a new world of elementals, with an RH twist. Can't wait to see what book two brings a new world awaits our main trio, as they brave political fall outs, new universes and the search to complete their group.

Adaline Jacobs is trying to escape from a town that knows her as the girl whose father disappeared. When she turns 18 things change for Adaline. Not just that she has 20/20 vision after years of glasses. It's in the fact that she does not have anything tying her to this town, except her step mom and she does not count. So she leaves and lands in Philadelphia. There while roaming the streets she comes across a building that captures her attention. There she meets Nolan and Kevin. She experiences a connection with both of them. When they inform her that she is their nucleus, and she is part of a quint. That she is rare and is very powerful. While trying to learn her powers and what it means, it is revealed she is in danger. Good thing she has Nolan and Kevin to look after her.Emily James Taylor is a new author and Discovering Aether is her first novel. There are some mistakes, the story line is a quick read, and flows very quickly. A lot of information is given in a short amount of time, but that is the trick with serials. I found Discovering Aether a very interesting start to a intriguing series. I think that the idea and the characters are engaging and I really enjoyed the introduction into what a Aether is and all about Adaline and her two men Nolan and Kevin. I can't wait to see who else gets to join her harem, I believe there will be two more. I went into this read knowing this is her first book, and the author herself let me know that some mistakes were found and she is working on fixing them. I once again kept in mind that this is her first book. I think she has a really good story and characters and I really want to see how book two turns out.

Oh boy where to start? Ok, I loved the blurb, it caught my attention and that is the reason I spent $3 on this book (soooo NOT worth it by the way). If I could get a refund, I would. Unfortunately I knew from the first paragraph that I had made a mistake and spent money on a book that wasn’t worth it. I forced myself to read the entire book because I paid for it, but, oyyyy, it was really hard. The book needs an editor, a really good one! Also, the author should probably have beta readers (if she did, then they did her a disservice). The idea/premise is good, and it’s so unfortunate that the writing is so, well, poor. The writing is choppy at best, and immature in the worst way. The characters, had potential but their development was so poorly written and explained that you end up not really caring. The plot goes by at breakneck speed and then ends *without giving it entirely away* soooo randomly that you feel that you’re reading a different type *genre* of book all together. It literally makes NO SENSE. Honestly, unless this book it re-released updated, edited, etc, I will not bother with any subsequent follow up books by this author.

I felt the story itself has a lot of potential which is the only reason I rated this a three. This is supposed the be a revised and read edited edition, if so I'd hate to see what it was like before. One of the things that made this an extremely hard read it the author didn't use any contractions I. The entire book. Instead of saying she didn't like it, it was she did not like it. It made the book sound way to stilted and formal. I'm holding out hope that the author is working on these issues for book 2 since as I said the actual plot of the book has potential.

Where to start with this mess? This reads like it was written by an 8th grader. From the horrid grammar to the stilted dialogue to the info dumps rather than actual story telling. First poor decision was on the writer who decided to publish a first draft, second mistake was on anyone who beta read and thought this was a good idea and the final mistake was any editor who let this crap go through to publishing. Oh, did the writer skip steps 2 and 3? I don't feel the desire to read anything else by this writer.

Kudos to anyone who managed to slog through this book. I couldn't. I was intrigued by the blurb, which is the only decent piece of writing here. My advice, find an editor even if you have to beg. Also, stop trying to rush the story. The reader needs a decent amount of background and character development to become emotionally attached to the story line. This reads like it's a very rough draft that accidentally was published.

I really loved this introduction to the storyline and characters. It does, however, need quite a bit of editing, but I was able to read over/past that. Looking forward to more from the author.
